How do we Integrate Faith, Clinical Counselling and the Holy Spirit?

If you’ve found your way here, you might be wondering how we bring together Christian faith and evidence-based clinical counselling.

You might ask:

  • Is this just a long prayer session?

  • Do we only read scripture to you?

  • Is there a meaningful difference between us and a secular counsellor?

The simple answer to the questions above is no this is not just a prayer and scripture reading session, and yes, there is a difference between us and a secular counsellor.

We’ll share below how we think about healing, how we use clinical tools, and how faith can be woven into the counselling process—always in partnership with you.

How We Become Who We Are

We believe every person is created by God with purpose, intention, and love. We are made for relationship—with God and with each other.

At the same time, we all grow up in imperfect environments and relationships. As a result, parts of us are shaped by pain, loss, rejection, sin, grief, or trauma.
Some parts carry the emotional weight of those experiences—feelings like sadness, anger, shame, fear, or helplessness.

Other parts of us develop ways to protect and manage that pain.

Some of these protective patterns are proactive: controlling, over-planning, people-pleasing, perfectionism, overworking, or emotional numbing.

Others are reactive: addictions, binge eating, angry outbursts, self-harm, or shutting down.

These responses can become automatic, embedded in the body and nervous system, and often operate outside of our conscious awareness.

How Counselling Helps Us Heal

Clinical counselling offers a compassionate and structured way to navigate your inner world.

Our clinical training gives us a grid to understand things like tricky relationship dynamics, why anxiety is so hard to deal with even when you “know” things are fine, why you can’t just cheer up when you’re depressed, or why you start sweating and exploding with panic when you’re triggered and have a history of trauma.

These are deeply human struggles—and there are practical ways to begin shifting them.

Where Faith Meets Counselling

We believe true healing happens when we bring our whole selves into the light—in the safety of a therapeutic relationship and in the presence of God.

If you’re wondering how faith might be part of counselling, know that this is always led by you. You may be looking for any of the following:

  • You want a Christian counsellor who understands your faith.

  • You’d like to include prayer or scripture in your sessions.

  • You want your story to be held with spiritual sensitivity.

  • You desire a counsellor who is in-tune with and listening to the Holy Spirit during the process.

  • You want to actively invite God’s Spirit into the work of healing.

Whether faith is central to each session or simply part of the foundation, we honour your preferences and partner with you.

The Holy Spirit & Counselling

We believe the Holy Spirit is the living presence of God—active and present today. We also believe that every Christian is created to hear His voice (John 10:27). But what does it actually mean to partner with the Holy Spirit in counselling?

Rather than following a set formula, we view counselling with the Spirit as a relational and responsive process, guided by His leading. This can take many different forms, including:

  • Gently identifying painful narratives or lies that make it hard to hear the Spirit’s voice, and helping you learn to discern His voice.

  • Beginning sessions by praying together and asking God what He wants to bring into focus.

  • Bringing places of pain to God in prayer and listening for how He may want to meet you there and what He wants to say.

  • Inviting you to ask the Holy Spirit directly what He wants to say to you.

  • The counsellor may personally listen for God’s guidance throughout the session.

  • Supporting healing from insecure attachment patterns by welcoming the Spirit to speak into parts of us that are shaped by disconnection, rejection, or pain.

Healing is Possible

Counselling gives us tools and language to understand and transform the parts of us that have been shaped by pain. But healing is more than just learning to cope or manage symptoms.

We believe that the deepest transformation comes when we no longer hide from the parts of us we’re ashamed of—but instead, bring them into God’s presence where we tangibly experience His love.

We trust in the power of God’s Spirit to restore what’s been broken. We believe the blood and presence of Jesus are sufficient to bring healing and wholeness—no matter what you’ve experienced or done.
